NEW MILLS ONE WORLD FESTIVAL
The One World Festival, now in its twenty-first year, is an annual free festival about the
environment, international peace, world development and cultural diversity, held in our beautiful
High Lea Park. Have a great day out and meet campaigns and community organisations working
towards a fairer, more sustainable world. There will be children’s activities, live music in the
marquee all afternoon and delicious food, including vegetarian options.
Many groups will be bringing stalls and there will be speakers on this year’s theme,
Think Global – Act Local, focusing on local action in the High Peak to promote sustainable living
in the community in the light of the challenges posed by climate change and associated global
issues.
This year a drop-in carbon footprinting service will enable people to investigate their own CO2
footprint. This stall will also highlight reasons to mitigate climate change and identify
appropriate solutions. One of the New Mills High School’s stalls will show how pupils are acting
to reduce their school’s carbon footprint, developing a more sustainable school environment.
Torrs Hydro will show how it aims to help regenerate the community and promote the
environmental sustainability of the New Mills area. Just some of the interesting local initiatives
taking place. Find out about these and lots more.
